Founded January 5th, 2021, The Tuesday Game is an 18 hole golf league that gathers one Tuesday each month at courses across Texas, for now… Our mission is to enhance people’s lives through community-oriented eudaemonic leisure experiences, and our vision is to become the thing golfers do on Tuesdays…
Our first season was played as an individual quota competition over 26 weeks from January – June, 2021. An idiosyncratic caddie named “Yerp” won, going home with the inaugural white jacket.
Our second season ran from July ’21 thru January ’22 and was played as a 2-player team competition that fed into an individual match play playoff. During regular season play, the first 6 holes were played in a scramble, the second 6 in a shamble, and the final 6 in alternate shot. Each team received one “flat footed” throw to be used immediately after a drive on a Par 4 or 5 from anywhere in-bounds. This throw did not count as a stroke unless holed. An ambitious single digit handicap insurance adjuster, “BV” crushed the League Commissioner in the semifinal match, and beat “Pincky” a COVID golf newbie in the finals to claim the second white jacket.
Our third season ran from February thru May 2022. The 14 week regular season format was an individual quota game on the front 9, and a 3/3/3 game on the back nine (3 holes – individual scramble, 3 – greed, and 3- regular golf). Each player received one flat footed throw to be used immediately following a drive on a Par 4 or 5 from anywhere in-bounds, and the season-end playoff was a 8 man bracket contested over 3 weeks. The League Commissioner beat “BV” in the final match to claim the third white jacket.
Our fourth season of play ran from August ’22 thru January ’23 and featured the Inaugural Tuesday Cup, where teams of caddies, amateurs, and professionals did battle for The Goblet Of Leisure. The format of play was an individual quota game on the front 9, and a random individual format on the back 9 decided by a spin of the wheel of leisure. Players received a customary flat footed throw, multiple season-end postponements from extreme weather led the Inaugural Tuesday Cup to be declared a tie, and the League Commissioner earned enough points to win the white jacket for a second time. The Goblet of Leisure was tragically lost during the season, and its whereabouts are currently unknown. A Tuesday Cup will be crafted to stand in its place until The Goblet of Leisure is recovered.
Our fifth season of play ran from March thru July 2023. The format of play returned to an individual quota game, with a 15 handicap sales manager “Captain Goodwood” winning the coveted white jacket by shooting his second-best-ever 18 hole score at the Season-Ending “Roundup at Rangers”.
Our sixth season ran from August through December 2023 in a 2 player team 6/6/6 format leading into one final individual match for the coveted white jacket. Two Rockwall neighbors, “LT” and “Rosey” qualified for the final match dubbed “The Rockwall Rumble” where LT won 1 up.
Our seventh season ran from January through June 2024 with an individual quota game on the front 9, and an individual 3/3/3 game on the back 9. The Season 2 white jacket winner, “BV” won the final 3 games in a row to clench his second white jacket.
Our eighth season ran from July through December 2024 and featured The Second Tuesday Cup, where teams of Joes, Pros, and Caddies played an individual quota game on the front 9, and a randomized back 9 format determined by a spin on The Wheel Of Leisure. After 5 months of play, Team Pro and Team Joe had earned sufficient points to advance to The Showdown, one final 18 hole individual quota game where the victor would claim The Coveted White Jacket as well as The Tuesday Cup for their team. Team Pro was represented by “TA” playing the back tees with a 36.9 quota, and Team Joe was represented by “Marshal Keith” playing the senior tees with a 31.9 quota. “TA” fell short of his quota by 10.9 points, and “Marshal Keith” was just 5.9 points below, giving him the victory.
Our ninth season ran from January through June 2025 in an 18 hole individual quota format. “Bill” was the only Tuesday Gamer to surpass his quota in the season finale, earning him the coveted white jacket at The Texas Rangers Golf Club.
Our mascot, Lee Shirley pays homage to an Alan Watts lecture about a man who has a fight with a mind reading circus bear. Since the bear can read minds, he dodges all of the man’s attacks. There seems to be nothing the man can do to get past the bear. As the man’s desperation builds, he reaches a point of total despair where he throws his axe in frustration which topples a tree that lands on the bear. This kind of accidental success is a good reminder about the source of our best golf where we act without choosing.
